RESTAURANT

BOX-E

2nd Year

Transforming the cold, empty Millennium Promenade, Bristol site into a new “fun-dining” experience within a playful and energetic setting for the restaurant BOX-E. The design has an emphasis on chef Elliott’s passion for excellent food and inspired by the act cooking as an art - “Good enough to eat”.

Considers the close knit community within the BOX-E business and especially the relationship with the customers. Recreates the intimacy from their existing space on a larger scale. The restaurant is designed around a large installation that follows the important journeys of the community within the restaurant, such as the food’s journey from the delivery door all the way to the customer.

The installation spills out of the kitchen; the heart core of the business, reflecting the form of sauces and liquids being poured. The installation highlights cooking as an art and the idea of being “good enough to eat”. I created the design using ‘chef techniques’ pouring and mixing paint and ink on the page, the way a chef allows sauces and ingredients to flow and merge together on a plate, and flavours blend seamlessly in your mouth.

The concept for lighting design for this project came from the idea of falling liquids. I caramelised and hardened falling sugar to create forms for pendant lighting for the restaurant.
