RESIDENTIAL

Designing a live/work space for Mexican artist Abraham Cruzvillegas, within Le Corbusier's Dom-ino House framework. The site is in The Goat's Gulley in Clifton Downs, Bristol. The site is home to various species of plants, flowers and grasses, including the Bristol Whitebeam tree. The Dom-ino House is positioned so it angles towards the best views, hanging over the rocky edge and closely interacting with the Bristol Whitebeam tree.

Cruzvillegas is a philosophical artist. His home needed spaces to reflect his journey to constructing his identity and becoming himself.  A sanctuary where he can fully absorb himself in his artwork whilst being able to relax.

Level 00 is the large studio area for collections for large sculptures, includes a floating glass space for quiet contemplation and reflection.

Level 01 is the kitchen and living area, with a terrace for close interaction with the natural environment, and views over the Avon Gorge.

Level 02 is the bedroom area which has seating for reflection and views from above across the Avon.

An element of the brief was to make a bespoke material for the artist's home. Using mark making inspired from the natural environment, to create a pattern that was then screen printed in layers. A hand making process which I believe the artist would appreciate.
